HOPE IN HOPE
BASTARD SON OF FAITH IN FAITH

By: Mike Smith

You smug anti-Obama types like to make a joke about his, admittedly vacuous, platform of HOPE.  You  insultingly asked, “Hope in what?”   Observing his vacuous campaign you answer your own question, “Hope in Hope,” and scoff and mock those who voted for him based on a nice word.  That’s right, his hope was empty, meaningless, just a nice word, and it was “hoped” it would attract people who didn’t really need a thoughtful platform, just a nice word.  There are lots of those people around.

Let us not forget, though, that Obama didn’t invent the technique, it was used before he used it.  It was used immediately before he used it.  George Bush (and other Republicans) successfully utilized the nice word, “Faith” in the same manner.  You never heard the name by which you must be saved, Jesus, come out of his mouth.   You likely never heard, “Jesus” depart the mouth of any of the Republicans who described themselves or other Republicans as “a man of faith” or “a man of great and abiding faith” or other vacuous proclamations that got the buzzword, “Faith” attached to a Republican candidate.  So what did/do these men have faith in?  Who knows?  What did those who voted for them, based upon that faith, have faith in?  Again, who knows?  For those of you who believed that the intonation of faith somehow made a good candidate, I can only say, you were B.H. Obama’s best Hope of getting elected, having set the table by which vacuous allusions to, what, religion, maybe, averted the need for explanations of what a candidate will do in office.

This technique that has fooled many for some time now gives way to the FACT that George Bush is not so different from Barack Obama.

Some believe there is some sort of actual difference between George W. Bush and Barack H. Obama or, at the least, their presidencies.  While there is, of course, as they are not the same person, they work for the same people or they proceed, anyway, as is important to us, in the same direction.  That direction is toward “less freedom” in as much as freedom can be quantified.

If we leave the impossible definition of freedom aside but turn “freedom” into a continuum, it’s easy to see that our freedom continues to diminish regardless the fact that the “rate” of that diminution occasionally changes.  What I mean is the diminution of freedom changes even when “your guy” (like Reagan) is in the White House.  It may decrease more or less slowly at times, but always, freedom decreases.  This is how we know there is a conspiracy afoot.  (If the Government-Media complex has brainwashed you to reject the term “conspiracy” please think “collaborative effort.”)  If there was no conspiracy, even the government, with its built in desire to usurp your freedom- for the purpose of empowering itself at your expense- would screw up once in a while and our freedom would increase, albeit for a period only until that increase was recognized and then reversed.  Surely you recognize the founders’ warning to us, their progeny, about conspiracy as they found it important enough to place that warning of conspiracy in our most foundational document, The Declaration of Independence, when they wrote, “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security--.”

Regarding the diminution of freedom we are undergoing, I cannot put a chart into this column so you’ll need to get pencil and paper and draw one or just envision one:  Imagine a chart with the Y-axis measuring a continuum of 0% to 100%.  This will be the percentage of “freedom” that exists as we continue along the X-axis which will be our time continuum.  Despite the fact that true freedom- actual liberty- comes from the Savior, Jesus, the Christ, we are going to start at the leftmost of our chart- straight above the origin at 100 percent- and call that July 4, 1776, as the freedom we speak of is being measured against the standard we call 100% that was established that day, though the codification of that freedom wasn’t recognized until 1789 with the adoption of the US Constitution (which will celebrate an anniversary on September 17).  We will measure only a small portion of the list of “sub-freedoms” of inalienable rights, those being life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as they are added together to give us our freedom level at any given point in time.

Recall, all of these freedoms are recognized, subject to the overwhelmingly popular worldview of the founders, as being given from the Creator of the universe, He having authored the best-selling book ever.  They are NOT to be diminished by government and government that does NOT recognize and defend these rights is, therefore, not legitimate, as our nation’s founders implore us, “...Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,” in the hope that the governed will not consent to government if/when it fails to recognize the Creator and the rights He gave us.

I do consent, by the way, to the united states Constitution.   I do NOT consent to the United States Federal Government’s usurpation of my rights.  I might defer to the Federal Government’s ability to deny me my rights, my liberty on occasion, but I do NOT consent.  The government is NOT the Constitution, regardless what the government tells you.   You can call Cheerios Spaghettios if you want, but that doesn’t make them the neat round spaghetti you can eat with a spoon.

So as we add up the sub-rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, as they existed on the first Independence Day of these several nation-states we assign that total 100%.  As we move to the right down our X-axis we will necessarily NOT be able to exceed 100% (until the Lord come) and we will, inevitably, as warned by Jefferson and others, see our freedoms diminish.

The right to life is diminished, of course by corruption of the courts and is now a right that is in total jeopardy.  The unborn are those of us who have been most denied the right.

The right to liberty has been usurped in many ways.  Of course, subordinate to life is liberty, as is every other right.  How has liberty been diminished?  Let me name only a very few ways as my fingers tire.  When dishonest (unConstitutional) money usurps real money liberty is diminished.  We are much less able to provide for ourselves and our families and those upon whom we would bestow some charity, when our wealth is stolen from us by the several machinations of unsound money as is forced upon us.  Our money has not been “sound” since 1913 when the most powerful corporation ever, The Federal Reserve Bank (oddly a very powerful corporation loved by Democrats) was established.  In this and many other usurpations of our freedom(s) has our government and the powers-that-be given us the form of a right, but deny us the power thereof.  In fact we operate under the “form of a republic,” but we are denied the power thereof.  Our liberty ends at the draft; you know conscription, forced labor even unto death.  Our liberty ends when any one of us is denied liberty.  President Kennedy tells us that in a nation where one man is not free, no man is free.  This was in reference to the denial of liberty based upon skin “color” (really a differing amount of skin pigment).  He challenged us, if you believe that all are afforded equal rights, would you have your skin “color” changed?  Well would you?   We are denied liberty by any compulsion of the Federal Government: taxation that does not pass the capitation prohibition of apportionment; compulsory education (inculcation); regulation that eats out the substance of those who are in business or, especially, those who are intimidated from starting a business; being yoked with the presumption of guilt before the IRS instead of innocence.  The list could go on long after this.  By the way, for your Bush-worshippers, do you recall that one of his campaign promises, or intentions, or thoughts was to reform the IRS, such that the presumption of YOUR guilt to YOUR innocence would prevail; making the burden of proof fall on the IRS instead of the accused?

The right to the pursuit of happiness (such as is denied by mandatory helmet laws) is, of course subordinate to the right to life and the right to liberty.  Some of what has been done to usurp your right to the pursuit of happiness (such as smoking prohibitions) has been done also in the destruction of your right to effect your safety and your family’s safety by, among other things, regulation that effectively prohibits keeping and carrying arms.  My fingers tire so I’ll let you fill in your own observations.

When we move down the line from July 4, 1776 to today I ask you, when did the continuum move upward?  The rate of descent may well have slowed at times, as some of you observe that confiscatory tax rates fell under St. Ronald Reagan, but, still our freedoms were diminished.  For those of you making the observation about taxes under Reagan, nice call.  However, hidden among sunshine and hot air pumped up your...um... “observation,” you will notice the explosion of debt and the use of the Republican hypocritically much decried Keynesian economics (on steroids and a 23-hour per day workout schedule).  There are no tax cuts without spending cuts.  Take that to bank (so to speak).  The debt we accumulate today, under B.H. Obama is no more debt (by quality) than we accumulated under WJB Clinton, GHW Bush, St. W. Bush and St. Ronald.  They employed the “credit card” of deficit-spending and accumulating debt in a manner that piled our obligations on top of our children.  Quit pointing fingers at the “other party” they’re both guilty as sin of spending in a manner unConstitutional, inimical to our liberty and in ways that destroy families.

If we want our cake and our candy we should pay for it.  We shouldn’t be taking it out of our children’s “observations.”

Back to our chart.  I can’t tell you what percentage of freedom we have left; I’ll leave that to you.  But know this.   It’s less today than it was a month ago which is less than it was a year ago which is less than ten years ago, ad infinitum, ad nauseum, ad somnus (thanks Rod).

Bush and the Republicans groan, “faith.”  Obama moans, “hope.”  Beware he or she who intones “charity” in 2012.  Ask them about Jesus, the author of the book to which they allude but never really credit.
